#NaPoWriMo continues and today was the biggest challenge of the writing prompts so far, playing with rhyme. play with rhyme. We had to start by creating a “word bank” of ten simple words of one or two syllables. The first five should correspond to each of the five senses. The next three more should be concrete nouns, and the last two should be verbs. Then we had to find words to rhyme with these.

As I rhyme in a lot of my poetry, I decided to add an extra challenge to today's prompt, namely writing using cynghanedd - a special type of rhyming within lines or words themselves, predominantly used in Welsh poetry. I'm no expert using cynghanedd at all, and prior to today I had only ever written a few short lines. This example is by no means perfect, but it's a start for me and I certainly will be trying this again in the future.

I have attached two images here today, ones showing my word bank and the rhymes (based on the principle of cynghanedd draws), and the other showing the rhymes within my poem.

Ahanas

An mena ros a bas y’m klew

Ow mygla’n ras a balv hweg.

Dens alkan ow min a vreyn yn tivay

A hwans an myghtern a-vann prest.

War-barth y furvyn tredan korfow

A-les, gwann on yn barras trayson.

Bleujen an Gwyns a reyn y’gan bys

Mes blam yw’n jarn rag ri reyth dhedhi

Dh’agan kregi yn own ha gasa’n stag

Ha dhanna krena’n vro gans koler.

Emperour vy os, ow sevel a-ugh dhymm,

Ow patalyas ergh pur dhe sesya’n tir.

Dell holyav vy a’th hweli dhe’n vre

Rag honan ny vydhav gen hwegen vy.

Of you

The rose mountain paces in my ears

Cooling in virtue of a sweet palm.

My alkaline teeth rot unkissed in my mouth

Still desiring the king from above.

Together we form the bodies’ spark

Parted, we are weak in treason’s crisis.

The Windflower reigns in our world

But the garden is to blame for giving it the right

To suspend us in fear and leave us stuck

And then shake the land with its rage.

You are my emperor, standing above me,

Battling pure snow to seize the land.

So I will follow from your bed to the hill

As I will never be lonely with my sweet.

Ow gerva - my a janjyas nebes orth skrifa.
My word list - I changed some when writing.

An Cynghanedd a assayis.
My attempted Cynghanedd.
